The Ministry of Health discussed measures to reduce maternal mortality
During the meeting, led by Minister of Health Damirbek Osmonov, the results of the perinatal service's activities for 2025 were summarized, and priorities for the future were established.

Participants of the meeting focused on the importance of improving the quality of medical care for mothers and newborns, as well as on measures aimed at reducing maternal and infant mortality rates.

The main report was presented by Raisa Asylbasheva, the chief specialist of the Department of Medical Care Organization and Pharmaceutical Policy of the Ministry of Health. She provided an analysis of the state of the perinatal service, its main performance indicators, and tasks for further development.

According to Asylbasheva, perinatal care in the country is organized at three levels, ensuring continuity and consistency in the provision of medical services. Specialized third-level care is provided in institutions such as the National Center for Maternal and Child Health, the Kyrgyz Scientific Center for Human Reproduction, and the maternity hospital of the Osh Interregional Clinical Hospital.

The healthcare system in the country has 2,167 maternity beds, 741 beds for gynecological patients, and 521 beds for pregnant women with complications.

The Ministry noted that the level of coverage of pregnant women with antenatal care remains high at 91.7 percent.

There are also reports of ongoing strengthening of the service's infrastructure. As part of this process, perinatal centers are being built in the Talas and Osh regions, which will significantly improve women's access to specialized care and reduce the time for routing patients.

The meeting presented an analysis of the causes of maternal mortality for 2025, based on which the ministry developed a comprehensive set of measures aimed at improving the quality of medical care, developing human resources, enhancing the routing of pregnant women, and digital integration of medical services.

Among the key areas for the development of the perinatal service until 2030 are: optimization of obstetric-gynecological care with an emphasis on prevention, improvement of the monitoring system for pregnant women and patient routing, revision of antenatal care standards with a focus on quality, implementation of modern prenatal screening technologies, and the establishment of a genetic laboratory.

Active development of family planning programs and preparation of women for pregnancy is also planned, along with the introduction of remote consultations for regional hospitals and strengthening the material and technical base of obstetric-gynecological and neonatal services.
