Macrotomy is illegally dug up and sold abroad in Kyrgyzstan

The collection of medicinal plants mainly occurs in mountainous areas

In the Kyrgyz Republic, the medicinal plant macrotomy (endemic) is being illegally dug up and exported. This was reported by Azat Sagynov, deputy director of the environmental and technical oversight service under the Ministry of Natural Resources, in an interview with "Birinchi Radio".

According to him, despite the existing moratorium, citizens continue to dig up this plant with its roots and take it out of the country. Sagynov reminded that according to government resolution No. 270 dated May 28, 2024, a temporary ban on the use of certain types of plants has been introduced in Kyrgyzstan, which will last until January 1, 2027.

This ban concerns plants such as macrotomy, arnebia, ash tree, aconite, aflatun onion, rhodiola, Samarkand immortelle, Olga's bug, long-stemmed bug, columnar bug, and Chimgan bug.

Nevertheless, macrotomy continues to be collected, primarily in the mountains of the southern part of the country. After that, it is smuggled abroad, where it is used for medical, cosmetic, and other purposes. This causes significant damage to the plant world of Kyrgyzstan, noted A. Sagynov.
