The mayor of Bishkek, Aibek Junushaliev, visited the water storage facility in the Manka-Zhar area on March 3, where he met with local residents.
According to information from the mayor's office, during the inspection of the area, he noted that there are currently no threats of mudflow processes, and the weather conditions do not pose a danger to citizens and urban infrastructure. The situation is under constant control of the city's services.
“The flooding situation observed in 2023-2024 caused concern among residents of nearby areas, and some doubted the effectiveness of our measures. However, thanks to coordinated efforts, we managed to prevent flooding in 2025. As a result of the measures taken, 6,000 tons of waste were removed, and the new water storage facilities can now hold up to 42,000 cubic meters of water,” the mayor noted.
The mayor's office, together with the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic, implemented a set of measures to prevent flooding. In particular, two flood control dams in the Manka-Zhar gorge with a total capacity of 1,615 cubic meters were cleared. Additionally, two water storage facilities were built in the villages of Lower and Upper Orok on Semetey Street - Motuke Uulu Jakypbay, and fencing of the adjacent territory was completed to enhance the safety of local residents.
Previously, heavy rainfall led to flooding in the residential areas of Archa-Beshik, Zher-Intymagy, and Orok. However, thanks to the measures taken, more than 260 houses are now protected from possible flooding and the consequences of natural disasters.
Residents expressed their gratitude to the mayor for his efforts, noting that the measures taken have significantly improved safety and tranquility in the area.
At the end of the meeting, Mayor Aibek Junushaliev instructed to ensure the cleaning of the irrigation network in residential areas and to complete all planned work within the established deadlines.
