After the renovation, the Omurzakov Stadium in Bishkek was closed to residents. A petition has been created.
The authors of the petition emphasize that the stadium is public property, built and renovated with the tax payments of citizens.
“We, the residents of Bishkek, express our serious concern regarding the closure of the stadium to ordinary citizens. This restriction violates our right to access sports facilities, making it difficult to engage in running, sports, and health activities, as well as to raise children in sports areas. The stadium should serve the interests of the community, as its funding comes from the state budget. The ban on access hinders us from leading an active and healthy lifestyle, which can negatively affect the health and well-being of the population,” the petition states.
The citizens are appealing to local authorities for open access or at least for the introduction of a regulated visiting schedule that considers the interests of all residents.
According to the initiators, maintaining the health and physical activity of citizens during the pandemic and stress is of particular importance. The stadium could become a place for health improvement, sports activities, and outdoor recreation.
The authors of the petition hope to be able to engage in sports from 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM and from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
