At a meeting of the committee on labor, health, women's affairs, and social issues, Vice Speaker Meder Aliyev presented a draft law proposing amendments to three existing laws. These concern the Civil Procedure Code of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Code on Children, and the Law on Advertising.
According to Aliyev, the variety of narcotic substances has significantly increased at present.
“Within the framework of the 7th convocation of the Jogorku Kenesh, we have already introduced several amendments to the codes aimed at tightening penalties for drug trafficking, including pharmacy drug addiction. Now, pharmacists who sell potent medications to minors can face imprisonment for up to three years. Additionally, we found that the previous criminal code did not provide for penalties for drug advertising. Now, the penalties for selling drugs via the internet and Telegram channels have been tightened and range from 5 to 15 years of imprisonment. This issue is particularly relevant for high school students and university students in large cities,” he noted.
Aliyev also pointed out that narcotic substances continue to evolve.
“Previously, the discussion was only about hashish and heroin, but now the list has expanded to include psychotropic substances, their analogs, and precursors,” he added.
