School Uniform. Wearing scarves is not provided for by the government decree.
Erkimbekov noted that Kyrgyzstan is a secular state. "Representatives of religious organizations participated in the formation of unified requirements for school uniforms. The decree does not mention headgear, and regarding girls' clothing, there are clear restrictions," he added.
When asked about the possibility of girls wearing headscarves during lessons, Erkimbekov did not provide an answer.
According to the decree, skirts can be of various styles: straight, wide, or tapered, as well as pleated or in pleats. The minimum length of a skirt (or dress) must be 5 centimeters below the knee, while the maximum length is to the middle of the calf.
Erkimbekov also did not answer the question of whether students who do not comply with the appearance requirements can be denied entry to school. He only noted that the school administration has the right to take measures in case of non-compliance.
Earlier, deputy Dastan Bekeshev expressed the opinion that there is a need to abandon strict uniforms and suits in schools. In response, the Ministry of Education stated that a classic style of clothing contributes to discipline and reduces social differences among students.
For boys, the school uniform includes a shirt, vest, trousers, and a jacket in solid colors — black, gray, dark blue, and burgundy. Girls are allowed blouses, vests, skirts, trousers, dresses, aprons, and jackets made of solid fabric or checkered patterns. At the same time, shirts must be in light shades.
The Ministry also noted that forcing low-income families to purchase a specific uniform is unlawful, and the option of "light top, dark bottom" is permissible.
