Jamila Dzhamanbaeva, the ombudsman of Kyrgyzstan, is actively addressing the issues of the family affected by the tragic incident in the Ak-Suu district, where a woman committed self-immolation, leaving four minor children without a mother. The ages of the children are 17, 15, 14, and 6 years. This was reported by the press service of the agency.
According to local authorities and law enforcement, the tragedy occurred on February 25 in the territory of the Ak-Suu district police department. The woman sustained serious burns and subsequently died in a medical facility. An investigation is currently underway.
The eldest daughter of the deceased, who is studying at a vocational school, is in her 16th week of pregnancy. Medical staff informed law enforcement about her condition. On the evening of February 25, both mother and daughter were taken to the police station, where an interrogation was conducted with the participation of a representative from the district's family and children protection department.
Immediately after receiving the information, the ombudsman for the Issyk-Kul region began working to clarify the circumstances and protect the rights of the children. On February 26, staff from the institute visited the family to provide the necessary support.
The family had previously been registered as low-income, and the mother had been receiving child benefits since 2018. Last year, with the help of charitable foundations, a house was built for them, and the village administration provided financial assistance since the woman was raising the children alone.
At present, the elder sister of the deceased has taken custody of the children. The issue of formalizing custody is currently being resolved. The pregnant minor also remains at home with relatives.
