Provocateurs or Reformers? Social media calls to rename districts in Bishkek and get rid of 'February 23'.

The initiators advocate leaving the Soviet past behind

A discussion has unfolded on social media regarding the need to rename the districts of Bishkek and abolish the holiday "February 23". This initiative has sparked numerous debates and divided public opinion.

User Urmat Janabaev expressed the opinion that "February 23 and the Soviet names of the districts of Bishkek should be sent to the dustbin of history".

It is worth noting that deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh and participants of the People's Kurultai have repeatedly raised the issue of changing the names of districts such as Lenin, Pervomaisky, Oktyabrsky, and Sverdlovsky.

Traditionally, February 23 and March 8 are celebrated in Kyrgyzstan as Defender of the Fatherland Day and International Women's Day, respectively.
