At a meeting of the committee on agrarian policy, water resources, subsoil use, ecology, and environmental protection of the Jogorku Kenesh, the first deputy minister of water resources, agriculture, and processing industry of the Kyrgyz Republic, Zhanibek Kerimaliev, reported on the progress in providing the country with essential food products. According to him, Kyrgyzstan is now able to provide itself with six out of nine such products.

Previously, as Kerimaliev noted, the republic could only provide itself with three out of nine food products.

“This is a significant achievement, as we have never reached such a level before. Now our goal is to include a seventh product—vegetable oil—in the self-sufficiency list, for which we will focus on growing the crops that produce it,” he added.

In response to deputies' questions about the distribution of loans in agriculture, the deputy minister emphasized that in recent years the ministry has shifted from a quantitative to a qualitative approach in this area.

“Previously, loans were issued without any systematics; however, over the past four years, we have started to issue them purposefully. This has led to improved indicators in breeding farms, milk production, and other sectors,” concluded Zhanibek Kerimaliev.
