During a meeting of the committee on agrarian policy, water resources, subsoil use, ecology, and environmental protection of the Jogorku Kenesh, the First Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry, Zhanibek Kerimaliev, reported that in 2026, it is planned to provide drinking water to 773 villages in Kyrgyzstan.

He specified that work on the creation of a new water supply system has already been completed in the village of Toru-Aygyр.

“Currently, construction work is ongoing in 120 villages. Project documentation is being prepared for 229 villages, and tenders have already been announced for 27 of them. Additionally, technical and economic justification is being prepared in 177 villages. It is expected that by the end of the year, construction work will be completed in 70 villages and three cities, which will provide access to clean water for 200,000 citizens,” noted Kerimaliev.

He added that since 2021, more than 560 million dollars have been invested in the water supply sector, of which over 55 million came from the state budget.

“These investments have allowed for work to be carried out to provide drinking water in 25 cities and 601 villages from 2020 to 2025. In 194 villages, water supply systems have been put into operation,” emphasized the official.

Last year, thanks to funding from the budget through the Department of Drinking Water Supply and Wastewater Management under the Ministry of Water Resources and Agriculture, 40 villages were provided with drinking water, enabling 75,000 people to access clean water. We continue to cooperate with donors to improve the situation in this area,” he added.
