The Government of the Russian Federation has initiated a bill according to which the children of labor migrants will be required to leave the country upon reaching the age of 18. This project has been presented to the State Duma and published in the official database.

According to the proposal, deputies will also discuss the introduction of a ban on issuing patents to migrants with low income. Under the new initiative, foreign citizens will either have to leave Russia or obtain a work patent upon their children reaching adulthood.

The bill stipulates that the children of migrants can only remain in the country for the duration of their parents' work permit and provided that a fixed advance tax on personal income is paid for both themselves and each child. After reaching the age of 18, children will have one month to leave Russia or apply for their own work permit.

Furthermore, the document includes a ban on issuing or extending work patents for migrants whose income is below the subsistence minimum. In cases where "the income of a foreign citizen is less than the subsistence minimum for themselves and for each dependent under their care in Russia, on average per month," such applications will be denied, as stated in the project.
