Experiment. In Uzbekistan, the institution of jury trials is being implemented
Starting from November 2026, an experiment will begin in Tashkent and the Tashkent region, during which jurors will participate in court proceedings for particularly serious crimes. This step is part of a state program approved by the decree of the President of Uzbekistan for the current year.
An important innovation will also be the granting of investigative judges the right to change or revoke preventive measures, such as detention or house arrest.
As part of the pilot project, citizens will directly participate in the consideration of criminal cases, except for crimes related to security and peace.
The goal of this initiative is to strengthen public trust in the country's judicial system.
It is worth noting that in Kyrgyzstan, discussions about the implementation of the jury institution have been ongoing for many years, but no specific decisions on this matter have been made yet.
A year ago, the President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, signed a law suspending the action of the Law "On Jurors in the Courts of the Kyrgyz Republic" and certain provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The document specifies that for the effective functioning of the jury institution, it is necessary to create conditions, including determining sources of funding and developing the corresponding infrastructure. In this regard, the action of the law on jurors and Chapter 45 of the Criminal Procedure Code has been suspended until January 1, 2035.
