The expansion of the dedicated bus lanes in Bishkek has become a topic of discussion at the city hall, where the director of the Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development, Ulanbek Beishenbaev, shared plans.

In 2025, a pilot project was implemented on Akhunbaev Street, covering the section from Ch. Aitmatov Avenue to Abdrakhmanov Street, which is planned to be continued this year.

Currently, options for implementing dedicated lanes on Tokombaev Street (Southern Highway), Abdrakhmanov Street, and Jibek Jolu Avenue are being considered.

According to Beishenbaev, the dedicated lanes will be part of a broader transport reform that also includes optimizing the route network. The main task is to separate public transport from the general flow, which will help reduce the impact of traffic jams.

“At the moment, there is no fundamental difference whether you are traveling in a private car or on a bus: both are stuck in traffic. Therefore, the creation of separate lanes for public transport is extremely necessary,” he noted.
