Young Talents: The Dream of the World Stage — How 14-Year-Old Kasiyet Aalieva from At-Bashy Conquers the Art of Komuz
Kasiyet, born on April 10, 2011, in the village of Acha-Kayindy, is currently studying in the 8th grade at Oi-Tersken Secondary School. In a recent meeting with a Turmush correspondent, she shared her dreams and plans for the future, talking about her journey in the arts.
“Since childhood, I have admired performers who played the komuz and sang on television. In my dreams, I imagined myself on a big stage. I remember telling my mom, ‘I will become a komuz player and perform in the USA, and you will bring me a big bouquet of flowers,’” recalls Kasiyet.
Now, this childhood aspiration has become a clear goal, supported by daily efforts. Kasiyet began studying the komuz in the 2nd grade, and after five years of study, she successfully graduated from music school. One of her first significant achievements was taking 3rd place in an online competition, and later, performing in the ensemble “Güldöy ber,” she secured 1st place, showcasing her teamwork skills. Additionally, Kasiyet actively participates in remote competitions, constantly improving her skills.

She successfully passed the first round of the “Delphic Games” and advanced to the second stage. At a competition in Bishkek, as a seventh-grader, Kasiyet took 3rd place. These challenges have become not only opportunities for victory but also valuable lessons of experience that strengthen her confidence and open new avenues for growth.
She particularly remembers the international festival “Naryste,” which took place in 2025. This event allowed her to meet young musicians from across the country and exchange experiences with them, significantly broadening her horizons and enhancing her desire to promote national art.
Kasiyet dreams of becoming an artist who will represent the Kyrgyz komuz on the international stage. At the moment, she is faced with a choice between two professions:
- musical arts;
- medicine (KGMA).
Kasiyet's parents noticeably support her in every endeavor and respect her choices. “I receive immense moral and financial support from them. Without them, I would not have reached such heights. I am also endlessly grateful to Nazira-ezhe,” she notes.
When Kasiyet first came to music school, she did not have a musical ear, which was noticed by her teachers. However, this did not become a barrier for her. Thanks to regular training and the support of her teachers, her ear soon improved, and she began to play the instrument freely. She currently has over 20 pieces in her repertoire. Despite completing a 5-year course, Kasiyet decided to continue her studies in an additional course to deepen her knowledge.
She expresses gratitude to her mentor Zaripa Tolobaeva: “Our teacher is very patient and educated. She supports us in everything and creates conditions for development not only in music but also in other areas,” says Kasiyet.
For Kasiyet, the komuz is not just a musical instrument but a sacred heritage of her ancestors. “Every Kyrgyz should be able to play the komuz. It is part of our history and national pride. As long as the komuz sounds, the spirit of the Kyrgyz people lives on,” emphasizes the young artist.
