According to the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the right to obtain or renew a CDL is primarily granted to the following categories of citizens:
- U.S. citizens;
- green card holders (permanent legal residents);
- foreigners with work visas who are legally in the country;
It is important to note that having a work permit (EAD) and a Social Security Number (SSN) is not a sufficient condition for obtaining or renewing a CDL. A corresponding immigration status recognized by U.S. federal authorities is also required.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic strongly recommends that citizens clarify the requirements in the relevant government agencies in advance, monitor the validity of necessary documents, and consider possible changes in federal laws.
