The increase in cases is associated with improved diagnostic methods
A conference dedicated to the development of pediatric oncology was held in Bishkek, as reported by the press service of the Ministry of Health.
The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Health Bakytbek Kadyraliev, members of the Jogorku Kenesh, representatives of international organizations, as well as heads of medical institutions and experts in the field of medicine.
During the conference, the results of the pediatric oncology service's work were summarized following Kyrgyzstan's entry into the WHO Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer.
According to the ministry's data, approximately 200–220 new cases of cancer in children are detected annually in the country. The increase in detection in recent years is attributed to improved diagnostics, the implementation of clinical protocols, and the development of the national cancer registry.
Speaking at the conference, Bakytbek Kadyraliev emphasized the need to implement modern treatment methods. He stressed that the development of pediatric oncology is not only a matter of image but also of saving lives.
In his opinion, the state should create a sustainable treatment system that is independent of charitable donations.
Among the priority tasks identified are reducing the number of cases where patients need to go abroad for treatment, increasing the volume of high-tech assistance in the country, and strengthening international cooperation.
