The Constitutional Court is considering the issue of the term of office of President Sadyr Japarov

The consideration was initiated by the president

Deputy Aliyev reported on his Facebook that the Constitutional Court is discussing the issue concerning the term of office of the current president, Sadyr Japarov.

He emphasized that this topic should be considered exclusively in a legal context, relying solely on the legislation.

According to the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic on the Constitution dated May 5, 2021 (section five, article 3), the president who was elected in 2021 for a term of 6 years exercises his powers in accordance with the Constitution, and this period is considered the first term of his election. The deputy expressed hope that the Constitutional Court would act within the framework of the law, without the influence of political passions.

It should be noted that the discussion of President Japarov's term of office became active after a letter related to individuals close to Deputy Tashiev appeared in the media. This letter raised the question of how to interpret the first term of the president according to the current Constitution: whether to consider Japarov's term, elected in 2021, a full first term or not.

This publication sparked active discussion among parliamentarians, experts, and the general public, as the correct interpretation affects the procedure for holding the next presidential elections. In response to the questions raised, Sadyr Japarov sent an official appeal to the Constitutional Court of the Kyrgyz Republic requesting clarification of the situation in the legal field. This became the formal reason for the consideration of the issue in the Constitutional Court today.
