The opening of the bridge passage on Zhibek Zholy Avenue is postponed again
Earlier, the city hall announced plans for a complete replacement of the load-bearing structures and the expansion of the roadway. Jambolotov explained that the work began at the end of the year to avoid chaos on the roads.
“We have planned the reconstruction of three bridges – on Shukurova, Auezova streets, and Jibek Jolu Avenue. If we had closed all the bridges and streets at the same time, it would have led to significant problems. During this time, work was being carried out on Kurmanjan Datka Street and the bridge on Auezova Street. We closed the bridge on Jibek Jolu Avenue when the work on Kurmanjan Datka Street and the bridge on Auezova was completed,” the official commented.
From September to December, construction work was carried out on the bridge, which concluded with concrete work in December. Currently, the process of gaining strength in the concrete is ongoing. Last week, laboratory tests were conducted, the results of which showed that the required strength has not yet been achieved.
“90% strength is not enough for opening the passage. The bridge must be strong and serve for a long time. If we opened it in winter and cracks appeared due to precipitation, we would be criticized. Therefore, it is better to wait a little. Next week, we will start laying and concrete work, such as installing curbs and parapets. If the weather is favorable, asphalt laying will begin at the end of February – beginning of March, while we must comply with the necessary technological requirements,” Jambolotov added.
