The source that has been a stop for decades will be updated: what will change at the popular spring in Chon-Kemin
According to the akimat, the issue of modernizing this area was raised on February 12 during a meeting with local residents, where it received approval. In accordance with citizens' proposals, preparations for improvement works have begun. The meeting discussed plans to create comfortable and modern conditions for tourists, which include expanding parking, constructing sanitary facilities, and implementing safety measures.
In Soviet times, local residents used water from this mountain spring. In the early 2000s, under the leadership of Asankul Akayev, the director of the State Natural National Park "Chon-Kemin" and brother of former president Askar Akayev, the area was fenced off, and a toilet and parking for vehicles were organized.
The "Altyn-Bulak" spring is located in the Chon-Kemin rural district, about 20 kilometers from the Kemin—Chon-Kemin highway, on the northern bank of the Chon-Kemin River, near the roadside in the Kapchygay gorge.
Local residents often refer to the Chon-Kemin valley as "Altyn-Choychok" [or "Altyn-Choychok"], which also gives its name to this spring. Official data on the origin of the name is lacking, but the spring itself is natural.
During the Soviet period, in the 1950s, a wall was built at the water outlet, and the spring was equipped with a pipe. Later, in the 1990s, a stop for vehicles with a camping area and toilet was organized at this site, while the spring was moved 10 meters to the west.
In 2021, the local public association "Shabdan Zhashtar Koomu" carried out repair and improvement works, including the installation of solar-powered streetlights.
The Kemin district administration reported that due to the popularity of "Altyn-Bulak" as a recreation area, capital repair and construction works for a comprehensive update of the area around the spring are included in the plan for 2026. The project will be implemented through a development fund.
