The Deputy Head of the Ministry of Health answered where the most children with Down syndrome are registered.

At a meeting dedicated to healthcare and social policy issues, Nilufar Alimjanova drew attention to the statistics on children with Down syndrome. Deputy Minister Aibek Matkerimov reported that in 2022, there were 135 recorded cases in the country, in 2023 there were also 135, and in 2024 the number increased to 161.

The data by region over the three years is distributed as follows:

Bishkek: 152;
Osh: 29;
Batken Region: 22;
Jalal-Abad Region: 58;
Issyk-Kul Region: 27;
Naryn Region: 16;
Osh Region: 63;
Talas Region: 17;
Chuy Region: 44.

Matkerimov noted that the high level of registration of children with the syndrome in Bishkek is explained by internal migration and population concentration in the capital.

He also emphasized that one of the key factors is the monitoring of the psychomotor development of children under one year old, which is carried out by family doctors during monthly visits to Family Medicine Centers.
