Court decision: acquitted on one charge, found guilty on another
In the Bishkek City Court, a decision was made regarding the case of journalist Kanyshai Mamyrkulova.
The court released her from liability under Article 330 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic, concerning incitement of hatred, but found her guilty of calls for mass riots, according to Article 278 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. As a result, the probation period was reduced to three years.
Thus, part of the charges was dropped; however, the sentence on the other charge remained in effect with a change in the term.
For reference, Kanyshai Mamyrkulova was detained on March 20, 2025, and charged under the articles "Calls for mass riots" and "Incitement of racial, ethnic, national, religious, or interregional enmity (hatred)" under the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The investigation claimed that she spread false information about the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, which could lead to destabilization in the country. The Main Internal Affairs Directorate noted that a forensic linguistic examination confirmed the presence of calls for violence, which became the basis for initiating a criminal case.
Initially, the court sentenced her to six years of imprisonment but then applied probation supervision for a term of four years.
