Mothers of children with disabilities: MSEC and schools in Kyrgyzstan turn family life into a struggle

In Tokmok, during a meeting with residents of the Chuy region, the Ombudsman of the Kyrgyz Republic, Jamilya Jamambaeva, listened to the problems of mothers of children with disabilities. They discussed the difficulties related to undergoing examinations at the MSEC, the accessibility of urban infrastructure, and the refusals of schools to accept children with autism.

It should be noted that within the framework of the "Karavan of Rights" initiative, meetings are being held in the Chuy, Issyk-Kul, and Naryn regions. Here, staff from the Ombudsman Institute and its head provide legal assistance and accept complaints about violations of citizens' rights.

According to information from the press service of the Ombudsman Institute, the event was held in an open format and gathered more than 200 participants from the Issyk-Ata, Chuy, and Kemin districts, as well as from the cities of Tokmok and Kant. Most of the questions concerned the socio-economic situation.

One of the central topics was the discussion of the rights of people with disabilities. Meeting participants emphasized the need to improve urban infrastructure, increase benefits, create comfortable conditions in educational institutions, and open specialized centers.

Parents expressed dissatisfaction that children with autism are not accepted into schools. In addition, they shared difficulties in obtaining examinations at the MSEC.

“To undergo an examination, we have to bring the children ourselves, even if they cannot move. My adult child takes a taxi because public transport does not accept us. Parents from remote villages have to spend large sums on transportation,” shared one mother.
Jamilya Jamambaeva noted that similar complaints are also received from residents of Bishkek. She assured that every voiced statement would be reviewed and receive an appropriate response.

As a result of the meeting, more than 30 written appeals were recorded and 15 oral consultations were conducted.
