In Manas, the 37th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan was celebrated, reports Turmush correspondent.

The ceremony took place in the assembly hall of the city hall. Among those present were Mayor Ernistbek Ormokov, Chairman of the City Council Nurtilek Bolotov, Afghan war veterans, and widows of fallen soldiers.

In his speech, the mayor emphasized that previously participants of the Afghan war, their families, and people with disabilities acquired during combat operations received 2000 soms annually from the city budget. He also announced that starting from the second half of this year, this amount will be increased to 5000 soms.

During the 10 years of the war in Afghanistan, which lasted from 1979 to 1989, 138 warriors from Manas participated, of whom 117 are still alive today.

Historical note: The Afghan war was an armed conflict that took place on the territory of Afghanistan from 1979 to 1989.

The main participant in the conflict was the Soviet Union, which deployed its troops to support the Afghan government.

The conflict was fought between the Soviet-supported government and local resistance forces known as the Mujahideen. As a result of the war, tens of thousands of people died, and millions became refugees.
