The mayor of the capital, Aibek Junushaliev, announced that large-scale construction and reconstruction work on 119 kilometers of roads is planned in Bishkek in 2026.
Among these works, 19 kilometers will be new roads, while 100 kilometers will undergo reconstruction. The project also includes the construction of six new bridges and one road interchange, funded from the local budget.
In addition, it is planned to build 28 kilometers of sidewalks, 20 underground, and three above-ground pedestrian crossings. A project for the creation of multi-level parking lots is also being considered.
According to the city hall, in 2025, 92 kilometers of roads were repaired in Bishkek, and in 2024 — 62 kilometers. Until 2023, the average construction volume was about 17 kilometers per year. This indicates a significant increase in the volume of road works in recent years.
Aibek Junushaliev emphasized that the approach to road construction in the city has changed: now the replacement of engineering networks is carried out first, followed by construction and major repairs of the roads.
These issues were discussed at the final meeting of the Bishkek City Hall board, dedicated to analyzing the socio-economic development of the city in 2025 and defining tasks for 2026, chaired by the head of the cabinet of ministers, Adylbek Kasymaliev.
