The city of Uzgen is preparing for significant changes. As part of the development strategy set to last until 2026, plans include the construction of new educational institutions, improvements in digital security, updates to road infrastructure, and the implementation of a unified design code.

Eldos Taev, the mayor of Uzgen, shared with a Turmush correspondent the current projects and plans for the city's improvement.

Education: new schools and kindergartens

Uzgen, being a densely populated city, faces a severe shortage of places in educational institutions. To enhance the educational infrastructure, the following actions are planned:

Major repairs: Under the "ERIK" program, two schools will undergo major repairs.

Construction of new schools: A school with a capacity of 500 places will open in the Jany-Ozgon area.

Preschool institutions: At the beginning of the year, one kindergarten was opened, and another one with 100 places is expected to open in March at the Lenin school, while construction continues for a similar kindergarten at the Babur school.

Sports facilities: A new modern sports hall has been put into operation.

All facilities are expected to be completed by the start of the new school year.

Road infrastructure and lighting

This year, the focus will be on paving both central and secondary streets:

Plans for this year: It is planned to pave 10 kilometers of roads (4 kilometers from the city budget, 5–6 kilometers with the support of relevant ministries). For comparison, last year, 5 kilometers were repaired.

Priority areas: Priority streets include Lenin, Amir-Temir, Malabaev, and Mukimi streets.

Safety and lighting: Modern street lighting has already been installed on the Bishkek–Osh highway, as well as on Manas, Mukimi, and Gagarin streets. Work continues on Amir-Temir and Malabaev streets.

Master plan and population forecasts

The master plan for the city, covering an area of 1080 hectares, is nearing completion.

Prospects: The plan is designed for 20–25 years.

Forecasts: At the current growth rate, the population of Uzgen could reach 120,000 people during this period.

Safe City initiative

To maintain law and order, the city administration has acquired 60 video cameras.

“Modern cameras will provide coverage of up to 70% of the city area, allowing for monitoring of traffic, pedestrian and student safety, and will assist in solving crimes,” noted Eldos Taev. The system's base will be located in the building of the Uzgen Department of Internal Affairs.

Improvement and combating illegal constructions

The city is actively working on clearing areas:

Demolition of illegal structures: 35 illegal buildings have been demolished near the hospital.

Return of land: The plots where 9 trading points were located have been returned to the Salidjan Sharipov school.

Ecology: A special commission has been created to monitor the condition of mudflow channels and ditches to prevent emergencies.

Design code: A unified style for the design of building facades and trading points is being implemented to create a harmonious appearance for the city.

Cultural and recreational zones

N. Aznabakiyev Park: The main park, covering 8.5 hectares, will undergo its first major reconstruction in 20 years. With the support of the World Bank and an international organization, about 300 million soms have been allocated for the project. New green zones, irrigation, and playgrounds are planned to be created here.

Attractions: A pedestrian suspension bridge connecting the stadium and the park is already operational and has become popular among tourists.

Leisure: The central stadium has been completely renovated, and the "Aychurek" cinema has also opened.

Housing and communal services and ecology

Sewage: Wastewater treatment facilities have been launched in the city. 4,000 subscribers are already connected to the central system, and the capacity allows for the connection of up to 20,000 new users.

Landfill: An area of 6.5 hectares has been fully fenced and improved thanks to a grant of $50,000 from an NGO.
