At the meeting of the Bishkek City Council's commission on municipal property, land issues, urban planning, and architecture, held on February 11, the chief engineer of the municipal enterprise "City Road and Transport Infrastructure," Ulan Kurmanbekov, reported a 20% increase in land rent at markets.

He explained that this decision was made for the further development of the markets and was the result of negotiations.

"The 'Dordoy' market increased its rent by 40%, while 'Alkan-bazars' raised it by 20%," the official noted.

A deputy, in turn, expressed outrage, pointing out that in the past, when the 'Oberon' market was in private hands, its owners sought to reduce the rent by 5%, but now it is being increased. He also added that such unjustified rates should be reviewed by the Antimonopoly Development Service.

"This is not acceptable. These decisions need to be reconsidered," the deputy addressed his colleagues.
