As part of the new general plan for Bishkek, significant changes are planned in the field of transport infrastructure, urban planning policy, and functional zoning, as reported by Mederbek Kydyrmaev, head of the State Enterprise "Bishkek Main Architecture," during a live broadcast on the "Kabar" agency.
Currently, the construction of the Northern Bypass Road is actively underway, which will pass through a significant part of the capital. In addition, the construction of the Eastern Bypass Road has already begun, starting in the village of Novopokrovka and connecting with the Northern Bypass, then bypassing the village of Kok-Jar and heading towards the southern part of the city. Work on determining the routes for the Western Bypass Road is also ongoing.
According to Kydyrmaev, the population of Bishkek currently stands at about 1,000,320 people, and this figure increases by 20,000 to 30,000 annually. It is projected that by 2050, the number of residents in the capital could reach 1,920,000. The general plan takes these changes into account, as well as the needs for housing, educational institutions, and jobs.
The document includes a clear scheme for the functional zoning of the city, where industrial and public-business zones are designated, in which the construction of residential buildings is prohibited. In these zones, it is planned to place business centers, office buildings, as well as industrial enterprises such as assembly plants and electronics companies, which will create new jobs and enhance the production potential of the capital.
The general plan also emphasizes the creation of subcenters in each district of Bishkek. This will significantly reduce pendulum migration and decrease the load on the central areas of the city. In the new districts, schools, kindergartens, multi-story residential buildings, and business centers will be built, providing residents with all the necessary services within their living areas.
During the broadcast, the renovation of the housing stock was also discussed. Kydyrmaev noted that there will be no forced eviction of citizens from the central part of the city. All projects are implemented based on voluntary purchase of apartments or by agreement with the owners after negotiations.
The city hall emphasizes that the implementation of the general plan is aimed at the comprehensive and balanced development of the city, taking into account population growth and the long-term needs of Bishkek.
