The general plan is a long-term strategic document that defines the development of Bishkek for the next 25 years. It includes key areas related to infrastructure, population provision, and improving the quality of life. This was stated by Mederbek Kydyrmaev, head of the State Enterprise "Bishkek City Architecture," during a live broadcast on the Kabar agency.
Kydyrmaev noted that the previous general plan was approved in 2006, and its validity was set to end in December 2025. Currently, the main client for the new general plan is the city of Bishkek, and the city administration has issued instructions for the development of an updated document.
At present, the work on the general plan is being carried out by a research institute from St. Petersburg. In 2024-2025, as a result of administrative-territorial reforms, the area of Bishkek increased threefold, leading to the inclusion of new villages and residential areas into the capital.
"During the work on the general plan, the institute conducted numerous analytical studies. The city administration launched special platforms and surveys for residents. Official requests were also sent to the ministry, based on which key problems of the city were identified and the main directions of the general plan were formed, which will determine its further development," Kydyrmaev added.
He emphasized that among the main tasks of the new general plan are solving traffic congestion issues, improving the environmental situation, addressing the shortage of social facilities, and developing transport infrastructure. Thus, the general plan is intended to create conditions for addressing the city's pressing problems.
