In Kyrgyzstan, a set of measures aimed at improving the environmental situation and reducing air pollution has been initiated. This was reported by the Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision, Mederbek Mashiev, at a meeting of the parliamentary committee that deals with agricultural policy, water resources, and environmental protection.

According to Mashiev, the activities are being carried out within the framework of an interdepartmental commission established to improve air quality. The updated composition of the commission, which was approved by a government decree, includes representatives from 25 ministries and agencies, as well as members of parliament, which has allowed for increased intersectoral cooperation and improved coordination of environmental solutions.

The minister also noted that in the past two years, there has been a positive trend in reducing air pollution in Bishkek and the Chui region.

One significant achievement has been the increased accessibility of gas supply for residents. In accordance with a government decree, the population is provided with preferential loans for the gasification of homes of up to 150,000 soms at an interest rate of 3% per annum (instead of 8%). This has allowed for the connection of more than 51,000 households to gas in the capital and has reduced coal consumption by approximately 100,000 tons.

Additionally, to protect the health of citizens, the government has imposed a ban on the import, sale, storage, and use of bulk coal with a fraction of 0-13 millimeters in Bishkek and the Chui region, except for heat energy enterprises.

The Ministry has also strengthened state environmental control measures: raids are being conducted across the country to check emissions from vehicles and industrial enterprises.
