The Ministry of Natural Resources reported on what is being done to improve air quality in Kyrgyzstan.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources, a new composition of the interdepartmental commission was approved in March 2025, which includes representatives from 25 ministries, agencies, and deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh.
The agency announced a number of activities aimed at improving air quality:
- Increasing the accessibility of gasification for the population and reducing the financial burden. According to the Cabinet's decree, homeowners can receive preferential loans for gasification of up to 150,000 soms at 3% per annum (instead of the previous 8%). As a result, more than 51,000 homes in Bishkek have connected to gas, which has allowed for a reduction in coal consumption by approximately 100,000 tons;
- In October 2025, a ban was introduced on the import, sale, storage, and use of bulk coal of the 0–13 mm fraction in the Chui region and Bishkek. Exceptions are made for enterprises engaged in heat energy production;
- Systematic work is being carried out on state environmental control. In 2025, regular raids for air protection are conducted across the country. As a result of these activities, 202 protocols were drawn up for exceeding emission standards by vehicles, with total fines exceeding 3.7 million soms. Following inspections of economic entities, 450 protocols were issued totaling 9.87 million soms, and notifications were sent to 3,795 entities regarding the need to comply with environmental standards;
- The Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision is participating in the formation of the natural and ecological framework of Bishkek, aimed at improving the environmental situation and enhancing the quality of life for citizens.
