At a joint meeting of the parliamentary groups "Eldik" and "Ala-Too," Deputy Prime Minister Edil Baisalov shared his observations on poverty in Kyrgyzstan.

He noted that the country is experiencing a new type of poverty that primarily affects the urban population. "The main issues are access to housing, healthcare, and education. Many families from rural areas, facing a lack of resources, move to cities and find themselves in difficult situations. This phenomenon has become more noticeable over the past five years, and unfortunately, today the level of poverty in cities is higher than in villages. We cannot ignore the poverty and extreme poverty that are becoming increasingly widespread," he emphasized.

Baisalov also mentioned that the government is actively working to improve the situation with social benefits, especially for children.

According to him, the state will not be able to immediately provide benefits to all children, regardless of their families' incomes; however, in the coming months, the cabinet plans to take steps to change the current situation with benefits.

Previously, deputies proposed a draft law to expand social support, which was put out for public discussion. Parliamentarians suggested providing benefits to all families with children up to 12 years old, as well as up to 16 years old for low-income families.
