In the moment of threat, the animal decided to play dead.
“Our village is located on the border with Kazakhstan. Foxes and jackals are common inhabitants of the surrounding fields and forests. With the onset of cold weather, they often come to people in search of food,” the man explains.
“When I went outside, I noticed the tracks of the fox and began to follow them. It sensed my presence and tried to escape, but I closed all the exits in the fence. The fox, frantically searching for a way out, realized it was trapped and pretended to be dead,” he continues.
“I was surprised by its behavior, as I had no intention of killing it; I just wanted to take a closer look. After opening the gate and stepping aside a bit, I saw the fox, waking up, swiftly darting towards the exit and disappearing,” shares Nikolai.
Foxes are found everywhere in Kyrgyzstan.
“However, their lives are full of concerns about safety and finding food. These animals find original ways to cope with difficulties. The fox, known for its cunning, can deceive crows, dogs, or even people by pretending to be dead,” says ecologist Alexander Sosnovsky.
