The question of creating a tourism school in the Issyk-Kul region became a key topic during an online meeting held on January 27, 2026, between the Minister of Education of the Kyrgyz Republic, Dogdurkul Kendirbaeva, and a delegation from Austria.
As reported by the Ministry of Education of the Kyrgyz Republic, the main goal of the meeting was to discuss areas of cooperation in the fields of vocational, technical, and tourism education, as well as issues related to technology transfer, according to a previously signed joint statement.
During the discussion, the parties reviewed the implementation of previously reached agreements, cooperation in the area of tourism infrastructure, training specialists for the railway sector, and practical aspects of establishing a tourism school in Issyk-Kul.
They also addressed issues related to organizing the educational process in winter tourism and sports, stages of infrastructure development, including potential reconstruction of buildings, as well as the introduction of Austrian teaching methods and best international practices.
The Minister of Education emphasized the need for a detailed study of the issues surrounding the establishment of the school, as well as Austria's mentoring experience in the field of tourism. The Austrian representatives expressed their readiness to provide practical and methodological assistance, including training for educators and specialists, as well as support in creating a modern educational center.
The online session also included Deputy Ministers of Education Albert Makhmetkulov and Lira Samykbaeva, the Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to Austria, Nurzhan Shayldabekova, and from the Austrian side – representatives of the Austrian Agency for Economic Cooperation and Development (AED) Dorothea Auer, the Federal Ministry of Finance of Austria Michael Matiashitz, and the Klessheim Tourism College.
As a result of the meeting, the parties agreed to continue cooperation and move towards developing a Plan of joint activities.
