Batyr Zhaliev (1935-2020) was a prominent Soviet and Kyrgyz artist, who became the People's Artist of Kyrgyzstan in 1993. He was born on December 15, 1935, in the village of Kashgar-Kyshtak, Osh District, Kyrgyz ASSR, RSFSR.

After graduating from the Frunze Art School in 1964, he became a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR in 1968 and headed the Osh Regional Branch of the Union of Artists of the Kyrgyz SSR from 1977 to 1982.

In his works, the artist reflected the labor achievements of people in agriculture and industry, including paintings such as "Industrial Osh" (1966), "Osh is Being Built" (1972), and "Khaidarkan Combine" (1974), in which he created images of workers from major enterprises in the south, emphasizing their labor and the best qualities of the working class of the republic. One of his most significant works is considered to be the genre-portrait piece "Toguz Korgool" (1974). He also created images of the Kyrgyz intelligentsia in the graphic genre and developed the artistic school of painting "Sizism," which represents a distinct direction in painting.
