In Kyrgyzstan, electricity consumption has increased by 25% over five years
Authorities emphasized that the pace of commissioning new energy-generating capacities does not match the growing demand. In recent years, the Toktogul, Uch-Kurgan, and At-Bashinsky hydropower plants have been modernized, and several small hydropower plants, such as Bala-Saruu, Kara-Kul, Kok-Art, and Kainama, have been put into operation. The decrease in water resources caused by climate change has also become a significant factor affecting the energy system.
The government highlighted the need to proactively build up coal reserves for the heating season, as well as to organize its supply and distribution to meet the needs of the population and social facilities.
Additionally, the meeting mentioned the high level of construction of solar and wind power plants; however, it was noted that such energy sources depend on weather conditions. In this regard, the Ministry of Energy was tasked with preparing calculations, balances, and reserve capacities in advance.
As a result of the meeting, the ministry was instructed to intensify efforts to develop generation, integrate renewable energy sources, and ensure reliable electricity and heat supply for the population and the economy of the country.
