South Korea has become the first country in the world to implement a law regulating artificial intelligence. This comprehensive document requires the labeling of all materials created using AI, including images, videos, audio recordings, and deepfakes. According to Reuters, the law will come into effect in January 2026.

The foundation of the new legislation is the Artificial Intelligence Basic Act, which establishes requirements for the transparency of AI services and introduces mandatory labeling of content created by generative models. Users must now be informed that they are interacting with the results of artificial intelligence work.

The law also sets special requirements for high-risk sectors such as healthcare, transportation, finance, and security. In these areas, the use of AI is only permissible under human supervision.
Violations of the new rules will result in administrative fines.
Additionally, authorities have announced a transitional period during which companies will be able to adapt to the new requirements without the threat of sanctions.

For reference, this law was passed by the South Korean parliament at the end of 2024 with the aim of reducing the risks of misinformation and abuses related to deepfakes and other AI-generated materials, as well as increasing citizens' trust in new technologies.
