The Osh Oncology Center Still Lacks a Linear Accelerator
Every year, about 2,000 new cases of cancer are detected in the southern regions of the country.
At a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, Deputy Bekmurza Ergeshov raised an important issue regarding the state of the Osh Interregional Oncology Center, which serves the southern regions of Kyrgyzstan.
According to him, approximately 6,400 new cases of cancer are recorded in the country annually, with nearly 2,000 of those occurring in the south. It is important to note that the Osh Oncology Center continues to operate in an old building that does not meet modern standards. Since 2010, the facility has been located in the premises of a former kindergarten, as the previous building was deemed unsafe.
Ergeshov also noted that the oncology center lacks a linear accelerator — essential equipment for radiation therapy, which about 85% of cancer patients require. Additionally, the material and technical base of the institution urgently needs updating.
The deputy emphasized the necessity of constructing a new oncology center with 200 beds. He reported that the land for the new building has already been prepared, but the issue of its implementation remains unresolved.
