“What kind of inferiority complex is this?”

In an interview with the BBC, Syimyk Zhapikeev spoke about society's reaction to his comments regarding the "five kopeck stories" of Chingiz Aitmatov.

According to him, he did not intend to offend the writer but merely expressed his opinion about his literary works.

“What exactly did I say that was bad about Chingiz Aitmatov? I did not get personal, I did not call him a bad person or a scoundrel. If I don’t like his work, what should I do? I mentioned that I prefer Persian poetry, the works of Rumi and Omar Khayyam. I expressed that Aitmatov's work does not interest me, but I am asked again: why? We need to respect everyone's opinion. I did not insult the writer or slander him. If I say that I don’t like Pushkin or Solzhenitsyn, will there be the same resonance? Is this some kind of inferiority complex?” Zhapikeev wonders.
Let us remind you that earlier in Ernis Kyazov's podcast, Zhapikeev discussed the topic of "mankurtism" in modern conditions, as well as the works of Chingiz Aitmatov.

The general also noted that he is not interested in Aitmatov's work and does not "bother" himself with such questions.

“Aitmatov praised the Soviet Union. If you read his books, you can understand that, as a welder, you will forever remain a welder, and a doctor will be a doctor for life.

His works do not provide hidayah (correct guidance in Islam) and do not contribute to development. I am not familiar with the story of the mankurt, but it does not seem significant to me. There are authors who tell amazing things. His stories, for example, about the first teacher or the collective farm, are simple tales. They do not inspire anything greater, like, for example, films with Bruce Lee,” he added.

These statements caused a wide resonance in society, and in the Jogorku Kenesh, there began to be calls for a legal assessment of Zhapikeev's words, while the Deputy Minister of Culture expressed the opinion that the general should undergo a psychiatric examination.
