In Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, the implementation of new mechanisms for managing transboundary water resources in Central Asia has begun, as reported by Podrobno.uz.

During meetings of the water management ministers held in Turkestan, both countries confirmed their readiness to create a transparent and automated system for distributing water resources, which is critical for the agricultural and energy sectors of the region.
One of the key stages will be the complete automation of water flow control on the Syr Darya River. With the support of the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), the installation of 10 digital hydrological posts is planned — five in each country. This will help ensure transparency of data in real time and eliminate possible disputes regarding the volumes of distributed water.
In addition, the countries intend to focus efforts on modernizing physical infrastructure and implementing water-saving technologies. The expansion of work on the interstate Dostyk Canal is scheduled for 2026, including mechanized cleaning and repair of key structures.

Furthermore, active cooperation in the implementation of drip and sprinkler irrigation systems has been agreed upon, which will allow agriculture to adapt to the conditions of global climate change and resource scarcity.
