The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has announced its plans to respond to current crises, which include 32 key projects in various countries and regions.
According to information from the UN News Service, these initiatives are aimed at assisting 22.7 million people, including migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, and host communities. To implement these plans, a total of $2.5 billion will be required.
“In 2026, IOM was forced to set priorities, focusing on the most pressing needs. Although the funding request of $2.5 billion is lower compared to previous years, this does not indicate a decrease in needs. The organization plans to direct limited resources to the most acute crises and the most vulnerable groups, as well as to operations that can save lives and help stabilize communities, while remaining ready to expand assistance as additional funds become available,” the official statement said.
The current challenges are evident: in Sudan, for example, due to the conflict, nearly one in three people is forced to leave their home. This year, IOM intends to raise $170 million to assist 1.3 million Sudanese affected by the war. The focus will be on supporting local communities and institutions to enhance their capacity to provide quality assistance and ensure a more sustainable, locally-driven response.
