The Department of Disease Prevention and State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance commented on the incident of mass food poisoning in Bishkek that occurred on January 15.

According to the department, 17 people were affected by the consequences of the poisoning, among them four are children. Thirteen of them were hospitalized and are receiving inpatient treatment, while the others are receiving outpatient care.

The first symptoms of poisoning in the victims were recorded at different times of the day on January 15, after which they sought help at the Republican Clinical Infectious Disease Hospital. All necessary medical procedures were performed, and clinical samples were taken for further research.

According to the epidemiological history, all the affected individuals consumed shawarma. In this regard, specialists from the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance Center conducted an unscheduled inspection of the establishment, collecting samples of ingredients, swabs from kitchen equipment, and leftovers of finished products for laboratory analysis. The staff of the cafe was also examined for the presence of intestinal infection pathogens.

As a result of the inspection, three protocols for violations were drawn up, and three decisions were issued imposing fines, the total amount of which was 41,000 soms, under articles 80, 214 part 1, and 214 part 5 of the Code of Offenses.
A sanitary order to close the fast food point was issued to its manager starting from January 15, and the pavilion was sealed.
The investigation is ongoing, and additional information will be provided as laboratory research results come in.

It is worth noting that in the summer of 2025, at the fast food "Daamduu," located at the intersection of Baytik Baatyr and Suerkulov streets, more than 20 people were affected by poisoning after consuming shawarma, caused by contaminated minced meat.
