Bishkek Master Plan 2050. Public Transport Could Become Faster than Private Cars
The Bishkek city administration commented on the requests received from citizens regarding the General Plan for the development of the capital until 2050. As part of this plan, the creation of three new high-capacity rapid public transport systems is proposed:
- city commuter train,
- tram,
- metrobus. The development of dedicated lanes for non-rail public transport is also planned; however, specific types of transport for 2050 are not specified (options may include buses, electric buses, trolleybuses, water buses, or other modern non-rail solutions).
The city administration emphasizes that the main task of the General Plan is to make movement around the city by public transport more attractive. This will be achieved through the implementation of accelerated systems that will be separated from the general flow of traffic. "If public transport moves faster than private cars (including not being delayed in traffic jams) and meets modern comfort standards, it will lead to an increase in the number of citizens preferring public transport and a reduction in the share of private car users in the overall structure of movements," the city administration explains.
