Homeless Man Broke into Someone Else's Car and Set It on Fire to Keep Warm. He Was Sentenced.

Maxim, who has no permanent residence, was found guilty of damaging someone else's property. According to the investigation, he discovered a car belonging to Nazar and illegally entered its interior. To warm himself, he set fire to some paper, which led to heavy smoke. After that, Maxim left the car and fled the scene. As a result of his actions, the victim suffered damages amounting to 550,000 soms.
After the pre-trial investigation, Maxim's actions were classified under part 2 of Article 216 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic, concerning the destruction or damage of someone else's property causing significant harm.
- According to the verdict of the Pervomaisky District Court, the man was sentenced to two years and six months of imprisonment in a strict regime correctional colony. He was also ordered to pay material damages to the victim in the amount of 550,000 soms.
At the trial in the first instance, the defendant partially admitted his guilt, explaining that on the day of the incident, he had been drinking alcohol with friends and did not remember the details of what happened due to heavy intoxication.
The victim, Nazar, stated that his neighbor noticed someone opening his car but thought it was the owner. One of the rear doors of the car did not lock. Nazar also confirmed that he saw a video recording showing the defendant arriving on a bicycle, opening the rear door of the car, and getting inside.
