The "Altai" Town Project in Bishkek Was Not Approved by the Institute of Seismology - NAS

Kanat Abdrakhmatov, president of the National Academy of Sciences of Kyrgyzstan, announced on social media that the residential town project "Altai" in Bishkek was not approved by the Seismology Institute of the NAS KR.
He emphasized that the construction of a large residential complex is taking place in a seismically hazardous area. This information prompted his comment, as a video surfaced on social media showing that the excavated pits intended for the foundations of high-rise buildings were filled with water.
Abdrakhmatov, who is also the head of the Seismology Institute of the NAS KR, noted that it has long been known that groundwater is located close to the surface in this area. He added that such conditions require the implementation of special engineering solutions to prevent possible ground subsidence and other risks.
Speaking about potential dangers, he cited the example of the 1911 Kemin earthquake, during which a fountain about eight meters high erupted from the ground at the epicenter, as well as the 1970 Sarykamysh earthquake, during which a hydraulic shock damaged the foundation of a construction site in the Karakol River valley.
Before starting construction, think, people!

The construction company "Kut," which is implementing the "Altai" project, stated on its Instagram that geological studies were conducted before the start of work. They claim to have examined the groundwater level and soil composition, and also plan to build a drainage system to divert water.
The developer asserts that buyers should not worry.
It is worth noting that the construction of the residential town "Altai" began on November 20, 2025, in the northwest of Bishkek. The project covers an area of 234 hectares, where more than 1,500 five-story houses and 34,000 apartments are planned to be built.
