In the UK, fast food advertising to children has been banned

Fast food advertising for children banned in the UK
A new law that has come into effect in the UK prohibits fast food advertising aimed at children. According to The Guardian, the restrictions apply to both online advertising and television broadcasts.
These measures are intended to help parents raise a healthier generation. Advertising of low-nutrient products will be allowed on television only after 9 PM, while it is completely banned online. The list of prohibited items includes 13 categories, among which are sugary drinks, chips, cookies, breakfast cereals and other sweet breakfasts, chocolate, ice cream, and pizza.

Statistics show that 22.1% of children in the UK are overweight or obese by the time they enter primary school, and by the end of their schooling, this percentage increases to 35.8%. It is also noted that tooth decay is one of the main reasons for children aged five to nine visiting dentists.

The authorities hope that the introduced restrictions will help reduce the level of calorie consumption among children on an annual basis.
