In the UK, advertising of unhealthy food has been banned online and restricted on television
According to new rules, the advertising of products high in sugar, fat, and salt will be completely banned on the internet. This decision affects 13 categories of goods, including sugary drinks (such as yogurts), chips, salted crackers, cookies, sweet breakfasts, popcorn, chocolate, chewing gum, ice cream, sweet pastries, pizza, and frozen meals.
Statistics show that 22.1% of children in the UK are overweight or suffer from obesity by the time they enter primary school, and by the end of their schooling, this figure rises to 35.8%. The main reason for visits to doctors among children aged five to nine is tooth decay.
Authorities are confident that the new measures will help reduce children's calorie intake by 7.2 billion per year and decrease the number of children suffering from obesity by 20,000.
