Issues related to mental health are becoming increasingly relevant not only in Kyrgyzstan but also on a global level. This was reported by Nurgul Ibraeva, head of the primary health care department at the Ministry of Health, at a recent briefing.

She noted that the World Health Organization has already raised this issue, highlighting its global significance. In response, the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic has focused efforts on improving psychiatric care and increasing attention to mental health issues.

According to Ibraeva, mental disorders rank fifth among non-communicable diseases, such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and cancer.

"According to official data from the Center for Electronic Health, as of January 1, 2025, more than 50,000 patients with psychiatric diagnoses have been registered. Analyzing the dynamics over the past three years, it can be observed that between 3,000 and 4,500 people receive such a diagnosis for the first time each year," she added.

Ibraeva also emphasized that the growth in the number of patients is approximately 10-11% per year. According to her observations, starting from 2021, the trend of increasing cases has become evident. "In 2021, the number of patients was about 3,000, and this figure has gradually increased each year, reaching approximately 5,000 in 2024," she concluded.
