Currently, approximately 8,000 cases of glaucoma have been recorded in Kyrgyzstan. However, according to experts from the Bishkek Center for Health Promotion, the actual number may be significantly higher.
Glaucoma is an eye disease characterized by increased pressure inside the eye, which can lead to partial or complete vision loss.
Risk factors include:
- age over 40;
- atherosclerosis and age-related vascular changes;
- hereditary predisposition;
- inflammatory processes or eye injuries;
- diabetes.
In some cases, an acute attack may occur, during which vision deteriorates sharply, intense pain in the eye arises, radiating to the temple area, and nausea and vomiting may be observed. In such situations, it is extremely important to seek medical attention immediately.
In the early stages, glaucoma often does not show pronounced symptoms, making timely diagnosis difficult.
Specialists from the Bishkek Center for Health Promotion recommend that everyone undergo annual examinations for intraocular pressure, which should not exceed 20 mm Hg.
