In official medicine, doctors can prescribe not only medications but also vitamins and dietary supplements (DS). This was stated by Aman Osmonov, head of the licensing department of the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic, in the program "Elden Sobol".
He noted that the main requirement is the mandatory safety check of dietary supplements by state authorities. In global practice, doctors also have the opportunity to prescribe such supplements if they have confirmation from laboratories and government structures regarding their safety.
“It is important to understand that dietary supplements are merely auxiliary food elements and are not intended for the treatment of diseases. For example, during the winter period, when there is a lack of vitamins, doctors may recommend trace elements or vitamin complexes to support the immune system,” Osmonov added.
He also emphasized that licenses for dietary supplements are not issued, as only medications are subject to licensing. Unfortunately, counterfeit and smuggled supplements continue to enter the country. The Ministry of Health informs law enforcement agencies about such cases. “We cannot stop this flow. Closing one loophole always opens another,” he concluded.
