In Kyrgyzstan, the incidence of hepatitis B among children has decreased by 145 times
From 2000 to 2020, there has been a significant decrease in hepatitis B incidence among children in Kyrgyzstan—almost 145 times. This was reported by the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The main factor behind this success is considered to be the introduction of hepatitis B vaccination into the national immunization schedule in 2002. Currently, the immunization of newborns is fully funded by the republican budget, and vaccination of children under one year old is carried out with the support of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI).
In 2022, the prevention program was expanded to include adults. As part of a pilot project implemented with the assistance of Rospotrebnadzor, Kyrgyzstan received 350,000 doses of vaccine and 140,000 rapid tests. Initially, the program was launched in the Chui region and Bishkek, and later it was extended to other regions of the country.
According to the Ministry of Health's information as of February 1, 2026, the number of vaccinated citizens is as follows:
1 dose received - 323,638 people;
2 doses - 271,182 people (83.8%);
3 doses - 195,092 people (73.6%).
The ministry notes that such results have contributed to a significant increase in the level of herd immunity among the adult population of the country.
